She earned her doctoral degree from Central European University in Budapest in 2011. Her dissertation entitled ‘From Job Search to Skill Search: Political Economy of Labor Migration in Central and Eastern Europe’ was awarded the Best Dissertation Award at CEU in 2011. The thesis analyzed labor migration patterns from CEE in the context of EU Eastern enlargement and examined how economic restructuring and welfare systems affected migration in the region. In the past, Lucia taught at the Comenius University in Bratislava and worked as a teaching assistant for various courses at CEU. As a consultant, she participated on the World Bank project about employment patterns of Roma in the Czech Republic and has also worked on several EU-funded collaborative projects.
