The ESET Science Award is one of the most prestigious recognitions for scientific excellence in Slovakia.

Each year, it honours outstanding scientists who bring new knowledge, strengthen public trust in facts, and raise the visibility of Slovak science abroad.

We are proud that Martin Kahanec, CELSI’s co-founder and Scientific Director, has been selected among the finalists in the main category – Outstanding Scientist in Slovakia.

Other finalists include Vladimíra Kurincová Čavojová (psychology), Zuzana Gdovinová (neurology), Karol Marhold (botany), and Adam Tomašových (paleobiology).

In its 7th year, the award has expanded to include social sciences and humanities, underlining that excellent research is created across all disciplines.

The theme of this year’s edition is “Science as a Pillar of Trust”, highlighting the essential role of science in strengthening trust in facts and verified knowledge.

Three categories are awarded:

🏅 Outstanding Scientist in Slovakia

🏅 Outstanding Scientist in Slovakia Under the Age of 35

🏅 Outstanding Academic in Slovakia

“We are delighted that both natural and social sciences are represented among the finalists. Their interconnection brings new knowledge, innovative solutions, and deeper understanding of the challenges we face,” said Paulína Böhmerová, Relations Manager for the Scientific Community at ESET.

“Whatever the final outcome, I see this as recognition of the long-term, systematic work of the research teams at institutions I am affiliated with – the Central European Labour Studies Institute (CELSI), the Faculty of Economics and Finance at the University of Economics in Bratislava, the Central European University in Vienna, and the Slovak Economic Association. I thank them for the supportive and inspiring environment we build together,” reflected on his selection Martin Kahanec.

The laureates will be announced at the award ceremony on October 9, 2025.
