The World Day for Decent Work is marked every year on October 7, led by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), to highlight the global importance of decent work.

Since 2008, working people, trade unions, and supporters around the world have stood united to demand justice, dignity, and protection for all workers.

This year, the call is clear: democracy must deliver decent work. At a time when corporate power, rising inequality, and attacks on workers’ rights threaten social justice, workers are demanding a New Social Contract based on jobs, rights, equality, social protection, and inclusion.

“Governments must reclaim democracy for the people. Decent work is the foundation of any democracy worth the name,” said Luc Triangle, ITUC General Secretary.

As a non-partisan, research-focused institute, CELSI supports democracy, fair working conditions, decent work and decent pay for all workers through its evidence-based research and policy expertise.
