On November 17, CELSI Scientific Director Martin Kahanec participated in the discussion “Odkazy novembra 1989: Ozveny minulosti či realita súčasnosti?” at Záhrada – Centrum nezávislej kultúry in Banská Bystrica.

The discussion, held on the occasion of the Day of the Struggle for Freedom and Democracy, included contributions from Beata Hirt and students from Matej Bel University, and was moderated by Csilla Droppová.

The discussion addressed the ongoing importance of democratic values, academic freedom, and civic engagement, with contributions from students and former participants of the events of 1989.

Remembering these moments reminds us that freedom is not self-sustaining; it requires care, reflection, and responsibility from each generation, said Kahanec.
