Trade unions, non-standard work, and social protection – Marta Kahancová's habilitation at Comenius University Bratislava
Published on May 27, 2026

On 26 May 2026, CELSI Managing Director Marta Kahancová successfully delivered her habilitation lecture and defended her habilitation thesis at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences, Comenius University Bratislava, where she is affiliated with the Institute of Public Policy.
The lecture, entitled "Trade Unions and Global Challenges", examined the evolving role of trade unions in responding to the pressures reshaping labour markets worldwide.
Her habilitation thesis, "Institutional Regulation of Non-Standard Work: Challenges of Social Protection, Pay Adequacy and Collective Bargaining", addresses one of the central questions in contemporary labour research: how legal and institutional frameworks can adequately protect workers in non-standard forms of employment.
These topics sit at the core of Marta's long-term research agenda at CELSI, spanning collective bargaining, social dialogue, wage policy, and the regulation of new forms of work across Central and Eastern Europe.
We warmly congratulate Marta on this important academic milestone! 🙏🎉
