Negotiating the algorithm: Marta Kahancová presented on collective bargaining in the age of AI
Published on June 22, 2026

How can workers and trade unions shape the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace? What role can collective bargaining play in ensuring that digital technologies are implemented fairly and transparently?
On 18 June 2026, CELSI Managing Director Marta Kahancová presented research findings at the workshop "Negotiating Digital Workplaces" in Dublin, organised by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Dublin.
The workshop brought together trade union representatives, shop stewards, occupational health and safety representatives, and union officials to discuss the growing use of AI and algorithmic management at work and the implications for workers' rights and representation.
In her presentation, "Regulate to Innovate? Collective Bargaining in the Age of Algorithmic Management", Marta Kahancová highlighted how collective bargaining is emerging as an important tool for regulating AI and data-driven technologies in the workplace.
The research maps collective agreement provisions on AI across Europe and identifies promising practices for worker involvement, data protection, and algorithmic governance.
The presentation was based on a joint study by CELSI, WageIndicator Foundation, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (Future of Work), and UNI Europa, co-authored by Marta Kahancová and Tomáš Šarközi (CELSI), together with Fiona Dragstra, Gabriele Medas, Intan Citra Phonskaningtyas, and Daryn Zholdasbay.
Many thanks to Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Dublin and all participants for the invitation and engaging discussion.
