Milan Vodopivec, formerly a Lead Economist with the World Bank, is professor at the Faculty of Management of the University of Primorska and International School for Social and Business Studies, Celje, both in Slovenia. He received a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Maryland, College Park. In 1989 he joined the World Bank, where he worked in the Research Department and in the Human Development Network. He also served as a State Undersecretary at the Ministry of Labor of Slovenia, and was a teacher and dean of the first private college in Slovenia. His research interests focus on labor market and cash benefit systems. He has published widely in these areas, including in Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Labor Economics, European Economic review, Labour Economics, and Economics of Transition. He is also the author of the book “Income Support for the Unemployed: Issues and Options,” and the co-editor of the book “Reforming Severance Pay: An International Perspective,” published by the World Bank in 2004 and 2012, respectively.
