WUNDERWORK: Workers’ Un(der)declared Employment in Europe

From envelope wages to platform labour - CELSI at the WUNDERWORK Kick-off in Utrecht

Oct. 9, 2026

On 6–8 October 2026, Utrecht University hosted the first in-person consortium meetings of the WUNDERWORK project, with CELSI Managing Director Marta Kahancová and researcher Daryn Zholdasbay among the participants.

The meetings opened with a two-day work package meeting focused on the project’s comparative scoping review - mapping existing literature and legislation on under-declared work across the seven partner countries.

This was followed by the full consortium Kick-off Meeting, bringing together all project partners for the first time in person.

The agenda covered the conceptualisation of under-declared work, fieldwork planning, and the project’s communication strategy.

WUNDERWORK is a four-year Horizon Europe project examining under-declared work across construction, hospitality, IT consulting, and care in seven EU countries, coordinated by Utrecht University.

The consortium of university research teams from the Netherlands, Estonia, Finland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, and Portugal is complemented by a wide network of associated partners: leading social dialogue organisations from all of these countries.

Among the project's Slovak partners are Comenius University in Bratislava, KOZ SR, the Slovak Engineering Industry Association, and the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic.
