EcoMobility Transition: Strengthening a Just Transition in the Automotive Industry
Sustainability conflicts, green transition, and regional inequalities: CELSI at international workshop in Vienna
June 10, 2026
On 20–21 May 2026, CELSI researcher Tibor Meszmann participated in the international workshop “Sustainability Conflicts in Central and Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans” held at BOKU University Vienna.
The workshop brought together researchers working on environmental governance, climate politics, green industrial transformation, and social conflict across Central and Eastern Europe and the Western Balkans.
As part of Panel 4 on the contradictions of green transition, Tibor Meszmann presented findings from the EcoMobility project in a contribution titled:
“Sustainability, Social Reproduction, and Green Automotives: Contradictions in the Regional Development of the Hungarian Northeastern Plain”
The presentation examined how green industrial transformation in the automotive sector intersects with regional development inequalities, labour markets, and the social reproduction challenges faced by workers and local communities in Hungary.

The workshop was organised by BOKU University Vienna under the STRUDEL and SACHER research projects.
Many thanks to the organisers, particularly Aron Buzogány and Dániel Oross, for the invitation and for hosting an engaging and stimulating discussion.
