PERHOUSE: Personal and household services (PHS) in Central and Eastern European Countries: Improving working conditions and services through industrial relations

Final conference of the PERHOUSE project on "improving working conditions in home care services"

June 20, 2024

The PERHOUSE Final Conference, held on June 21st, brought together 72 participants from across Central and Eastern Europe to explore the future of personal and household services (PHS).

With 14 insightful presentations, the event fostered dynamic discussions on social dialogue, policy recommendations, and the impact of recent global events on the sector.

Key highlights included an opening address by Thomas Bignal from ESPD, who set the stage for an in-depth analysis of the care industry.

Marta Kahancova from CELSI shared the project's core objectives, followed by a compelling video comparing PHS sector challenges across 12 countries.

The conference featured two interactive panels. The first panel delved into national reports from six CEE countries, revealing shared issues such as unsafe working conditions and undeclared labour.

The second panel brought together industry stakeholders, emphasizing the need for robust social dialogue and improved collective bargaining at the EU level.

Our discussions identified crucial opportunities to enhance worker rights and promote sector collaboration through the EU Care Strategy.
