TRUE EUROPE: Trust in Relations between Unions and Employers in Europe
How does trust shape industrial relations across Europe? The TRUE Europe Final Comparative Report is now published
Nov. 28, 2025
After two years of collaborative research, fieldwork, and dialogue with social partners across eight countries, the TRUE Europe project has released its Final Comparative Report, edited by Bengt Larsson, Margaret Heffernan & Aurora Trif - the most comprehensive cross-country analysis to date on how trust operates within European industrial relations.
The report brings together:
✔ a conceptual overview of trust and its foundations
✔ a review of international research on trust in employment relations
✔ a mapping of industrial relations systems across Europe
✔ a quantitative analysis of trust dynamics
✔ eight in-depth country studies (Ireland, Austria, Sweden, Czechia, Slovakia, Romania, Serbia and Lithuania)
✔ comparative conclusions and recommendations for strengthening collective bargaining through trust
These findings reflect thousands of pages of research and dozens of interviews, workshops, and co-creation sessions conducted between 2023 and 2025.
The TRUE Europe project was coordinated by Linnaeus University and carried out by a consortium of researchers from Linnaeus University (Sweden), CELSI (Slovakia), Dublin City University (Ireland), Lithuanian Centre for Social Sciences, University of Belgrade (Serbia), Bucharest University of Economic Studies (Romania) and other collaborating experts across Europe.
