The hospitality and tourism sector in Europe employs more than 10 million workers and is a key driver of the European economy. Yet workers in the sector continue to face persistent challenges: widespread non-standard employment, low pay, and difficult working conditions.
CELSI researchers Marta Kahancová and Adam Šumichrast, together with colleagues from ADAPT, analysed these challenges with a focus on low trade union density, mobilising young workers, and promoting stronger collective bargaining and social dialogue at both national and European levels.
Their research findings are now published and available.

Stronger Hospitality is an EU-funded project coordinated by EFFAT (European Federation of Trade Unions in the Food, Agriculture and Tourism sectors). Its aim is to strengthen trade union capacity in the hospitality sector – particularly in Central and South-Eastern Europe – to better address the many challenges facing the sector.
