Monika Martišková in an interview for Trend on skills shortages, pay and AI

In an interview for Trend, CELSI Deputy Director Monika Martišková discusses which firms can afford such experts.

Slovak companies need people to keep today's production running and experts who can change it.

In an interview for Trend, CELSI researcher and Deputy Director Monika Martišková discusses which firms can afford such experts, when above-standard pay can be justified, why AI is affecting junior positions, and how labour shortages are changing agency work.

Smaller firms in particular lack the room and the resources to innovate. "Where there is no room to experiment, there is no room to learn from mistakes either," she says.

The interview also turns to the other end of the labour market: the minimum wage and the wage needed for a decent life.

CELSI and our long-standing partner, the WageIndicator Foundation, put the 2026 living wage in Slovakia at EUR 1,344 gross a month for a person in a household of two working adults and two children. The statutory minimum wage covers only 68% of that amount.
