Earlier this week, the CELSI team together with the SGI Institute team, presented the findings from our project ´I want to work, who can help me?´ on the cooperation of organizations in the integration of people with disabilities into the labor market. In the discussion, regional actors from trade unions, the non-governmental and state sectors of the Košice region pointed out the need to strengthen the transition of disadvantaged workers from sheltered employment to the open labor market, for example by strengthening supported employment agencies.

CELSI´s research team gathered to discuss the mission, vision, and work plans of CELSI.

ARTUS-CEE project partners met on-line to discuss the progress and the next steps in their research work.

CELSI hosted an online workshop titled Close the gender pay gap in the public services in the context of austerity. Presented case studies from Poland, Romania, Hungary, Austria and Slovakia provided evidence of successful and less successful strategies of the trade unions addressing the low wages and working conditions in the women-dominated public services.

CELSI's co-founder and scientific director Martin Kahanec has been invited to join a panel of experts to advise the upcoming German EU Council presidency on the questions of EU mobility.

Distancing measures imposed by twelve European countries during the COVID-19 pandemics (a ban on holding public events, school closures, shop closures, and a ban on non-essential movement) were associated with large drops in visits to retail and recreation, groceries and pharmacies, transit stations, and workplaces, drops in visits to parks in most cases, and an increase in time spent at home.

CELSI joins the international initiative of European Trade Union Federations and the European Trade Union Confederation to commemorate those who died at work - due to lack of health and safety provisions at workplaces. We remember healthcare workers and all other workers who died from the Covid-19 disease through exposure at work.

On the occasion of the International Roma Day, on April 8, 2020, CELSI researchers Martin Kahanec, Lucia Kováčová and Maria Sedláková (together with Zuzana Poláčková from the Slovak Academy of Sciences) published a study on “The social and employment situation of Roma communities in Slovakia”, commissioned by the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL)
