GPG: Closing the gender pay gap in public services in the context of austerity

Regional workshop London

Feb. 6, 2020

The CELSI researcher Barbora Holubová and the analyst Jakub Kostolný participated at the regional workshop in London. The event brought together the lead and partner researchers with the representatives of trade unions from Denmark, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Germany, Ireland and Finland. Trade unionists presented successful strategies on how to mitigate the gender pay gap in public services. One of the cases showed how the Swedish Municipal Workers’ Union bargained for higher wages of the welfare workers, also resulting in the GPG decrease. They campaigned the pay increase by comparing the value of care in fields dominated by women with those dominated by men.
