In its October issue, Forbes Slovakia published profiles of the ESET Science Award 2025 finalists, showing how their research and personal stories help to strengthen trust in science.

As Forbes editor Milan Čupka explains, in a world of disinformation, the achievements and human dimension of scientists are powerful ways to rebuild public trust.

Among the featured finalists is Martin Kahanec, professor at Central European University in Vienna, University of Economics in Bratislava, and CELSI’s co-founder and Scientific Director.

Forbes highlighted his co-authorship of the Living Wage concept, managed by the WageIndicator Foundation, which today provides open-access wage benchmarks for 175 countries and more than 3,000 regions, used by multinational employers and global institutions.

As the first Slovak ever appointed to the European Commission’s Group of Chief Scientific Advisors (GCSA), Kahanec also contributes to shaping EU-level science advice. Beyond his global work, he remains motivated by the impact better policies and fairer wages can have on people in Slovakia’s regions.

The award laureates will be announced on 9 October 2025. Until 8 October, you can still support Martin in the Public Prize 👉 https://www.esetscienceaward.sk/sk/hlasovanie-verejnosti#voting-finalists
